The Canine Domain is the only training centre for Canine Security Agents (Agents Cynophiles de Sécurité – ACS) approved by the National Co-ordination for Security Training Centres (‘Coordination Nationale des Centres de Formation en Sécurité’ – CNCFS) in the Antilles-Guyana area.

Surveillance patrols, and the control and monitoring of sites and perimeters as determined by the employer (private security company), such as warehouses, parking lots, marquees and any other zone for which they are responsible, a Canine Security Agent is a professional that exercises their duties through the application of valid regulations. A professional assisted by their dog that has learnt to master natural or acquired abilities side by side with the experienced trainers of Canine Domain. This dynamic duo does not improvise. Their professional knowledge and skills combined with the ability to protect goods and people is rigorously verified during the training.

The training of a Canine Security Agent (CSA or ACS, ‘agent cynophile de sécurité’), respecting public freedom and the legislation applicable to the private security sector, has been obligatory since June 2008. It requires the trainee, the future security agent, to work with their approved trainers to learn in-depth knowledge of dog handling, particularly the close relationship between the handler and the animal.

A subtle art combining devotion, authority and passion, destined to train the dog to become his master’s ‘right hand’ in the exercise of their professional activities…

An exemplary session

The last training session began the 25th August 2014. A training course of 1,347 hours (essentially dog training and handling) conducted by the trainers at Canine Domain – the only approved centre of Antilles-Guyana – was completed the 22nd May 2015. It encompassed 21 trainees from Grand-Terre and Basse-Terre, accompanied by their dogs.

To obtain certification as a pair thereby gaining the right to hold a professional license, each trainee must undergo certain tests with his dog in front of a jury composed of a CNCFS official, a National Co-ordinator for the ACS certification and a canine security agent from the National Gendarmerie. These tests cover individual detection, on-site obedience, character evaluation, dedication – facing an attacker (specially equipped trainer) – or night work for a business, as determined by the final decision from the judges.

Apart from the knowledge and skills inherent to their future career as a Prevention and Security Agent the trainees must also be qualified in emergency first aid (level 1) and possess the basic dog handling skills to be able to work with a dog correctly in their chosen sector.
